Evaluation of nursing and midwifery staff job motivation and its relationship with some demographic characteristics of nurses and midwives in educational treatment centers of Hamadan university of medical sciences

Background and Aim:. As a major member of the health care team, nurses and midwives play key and an increasingly important role in the improvement and promotion of community health. Considering the role of job motivation in improving the presentation and quality of nursing and midwifery services, Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the job motivation of nursing and midwifery staff and its relation with some of their personal characteristics. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-cross sectional study was performed on 259 nurses and midwives working in educational treatment centers of Hamedan University of Medical Sciences. The data were collected using Herzberg's motivation-hygiene factors questionnaire, which contained 11 dimensions and 40 items that were based on a Likert scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 via independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation test and regression at a significant level (p< 0.05). Results: The results of this study showed that the highest percentage (95.1%) of the nurses and midwives who participated in the research had a good job motivation and (4.9%) had a modest job motivation. Conclusion: According to the obtained findings, we can improve the quality of care by reinforcing motivational factors in nursing and midwifery staff, thereby increasing the service to patients.
